What counts as a healthy weight
Waist-to-height ratio = waist ÷ height (same units)
Waist-to-height target: keep it under 0.5
A healthy weight is a range, not a number. For adults it is normally defined as the weight that puts your BMI between 18.5 and 25, which for most heights spans fifteen kilograms or more. Where you should sit inside that band depends on how much muscle you carry, your waist measurement and your family history.
Why waist matters as much as weight
Fat stored around the abdomen behaves differently from fat on the hips and thighs, and it tracks metabolic risk more tightly than weight alone. Keeping your waist under half your height is a simple, height-independent rule that works across most adults. If your weight sits in the healthy band but your waist does not, the training and nutrition priority is body composition rather than the scale.
