Body Fat Calculator
Estimate your body fat percentage from simple tape measurements using the U.S. Navy method, and compare it with the BMI-based estimate.

The U.S. Navy circumference method
Women (cm): 495 / (1.29579 − 0.35004·log10(waist + hip − neck) + 0.22100·log10(height)) − 450
BMI method (Deurenberg): body fat % = 1.20·BMI + 0.23·age − 10.8·(1 if male) − 5.4
The tape method estimates fat from the shape of your body rather than its weight, which is why it separates a muscular 90 kg frame from a soft one. Measure with a flexible tape held snug but not tight, first thing in the morning, and take each measurement twice. Neck is measured just below the larynx, waist at the navel for men and at the narrowest point for women, hips at the widest point.
How accurate is it?
Expect a margin of roughly three to four percentage points against a DEXA scan. That is fine for tracking change over months, which is what actually matters — the direction of travel is far more useful than the absolute figure. Some fat is essential: dropping below the essential range disrupts hormones, immunity and, in women, menstrual health.
